We present a dance show annually towards the end of the summer term. Our full school shows take place in ‘even years’ and our smaller, Upper School only shows (with selected dances), take place on ‘odd years’.
Our most recent performance ‘Different & Diverse’ was performed by 120 of our Upper School students at the Albany Theatre in Deptford on Saturday 1st / Sunday 2nd July 2023. The first act, a piece based on the story of The Ugly Duckling was performed by our Musical Theatre ensemble and thse second act was a medley of selected ballet, tap, modern, commercial and contemporary dances.
Our last full school show (for children in Preparatory and above) was in January 2022 (adjusted timing due to the pandemic) and we performed a brand new ballet based on ‘The Scarecrows’ Wedding’ by Julia Donaldson. Created and directed by Principal, Zoe Dawson, and composed and performed by Stuart Rush.
The second act of our January show was titled ‘This is Me’ and was directed by Ellie Curtis. ‘This is Me’ followed the uplifting theme of being grateful for who we are and confident to be our true self, but most importantly, celebrating individuality. Our talented cast performed a range of feel-good Tap, Modern, Commercial/street, Musical Theatre and Contemporary dances.
Previous to this, we presented a brand new ballet based on Neil Gaiman’s novel, ‘Coraline’ and ‘Inside Out’ which followed the themes and ideas of the feature film. Both Acts of the show shared the common theme of the trials and tribulations of being a ‘tweenager’, although viewed through the eyes of two contrasting characters and presented in very different ways . . .
In Act I (‘Inside Out’), we saw how Lucy’s emotional experiences are shaping her into a young adult and forming her outlook on life.
In Act II, we saw Coraline overcome her frustrations and fears to develop the strength of character she will need as she becomes a teenager, and see her realise that life isn’t always greener on the other side.
We look forward to your child participating in our upcoming Dance Shows and Performances.
