Classical ballet emphasises fluid, graceful movements and long, aesthetically pleasing lines, along with strict adherence to correct form and technique, especially turn-out of the legs. There’s also a focus on narrative and storytelling achieved through a combination of musical interpretation, mime and choreography.
ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance) Imperial Classical Ballet is based on the teaching of the French School at the Paris Opéra and so provides the essentials of a pure classical training. The syllabus evolves to promote the English classical ballet style and to address the changing needs of ballet dancers today.
