Children without any experience in ballet can join our Primary ballet classes when they are in school year 3 and 4, or our Grade 1 ballet classes when they are in school year 5 plus.
Primary Ballet (I) & (II) and Graded Ballet Classes (for children in Year 3 and above)
Through carefully structured classes, we teach correct technique and aim to achieve the highest standards relative to each individual’s physique and ability. Ballet is superb for developing excellent posture, strength, stamina and flexibility.
We strive to develop sense of performance, musicality, exceptional classical line and quality of movement, alongside encouraging freedom of expression, particularly in the lower grades.
Our classes are enjoyable and rewarding but require discipline, commitment and dedication. Our teachers provide a caring and supportive environment in which our students can thrive.
Students with the necessary experience can start to work towards ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance) Imperial Classical Ballet Graded examinations up to Grade 6 and students who show outstanding potential, may be asked by the Principal to commence work on Vocational examinations (up to Advanced 1 level). Pointe work is normally introduced for girls when they move into Grade 5 ballet or at commencement of Vocational work.
For children in Grade 1 ballet and higher, it is necessary to attend two ballet classes per week in order to enter for ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance) examinations. Also, National Dance classes are compulsory for all children in Primary and Grade 1 ballet. At Grade 2 ballet and above, it is necessary to attend weekly Strength & Technique classes, adding Power & Skills classes when reaching Grade 4 ballet.
As all dance forms complement each other, to enhance their learning in ballet, we recommend that children also learn tap and modern dance.
