Pre-Primary Ballet (I) & (II) (for children in School Reception to Year 2)

Our Pre-Primary Ballet classes are for children from school Reception age.  At this level, we feel it is still important for the creative and expressive aspect of ballet to be first and foremost in learning the dance genre.  Therefore, in our Pre-Primary (I) classes, we continue to use stories from famous ballets such as ‘Sleeping Beauty’ and ‘The Firebird’, which help to engage the children and inspire them to dance with an appropriate quality of movement as well as their own feeling and characterisation. In Primary ballet (II), we use music and show images from famous ballets so that children become aware of some of the most famous ballets in the world.

In Pre-Primary ballet, children learn basic classical ballet steps, positions and technique, focusing on posture, turnout and extension of the feet and legs. They also improve musical timing and being able to dance the correct number of steps. In Pre-Primary ballet (II), we start to encourage children to try to remember exercises and corrections from lesson to lesson.

Children also learn Pre-Primary tap and Primary modern alongside Pre-Primary ballet.

After Pre-Primary ballet (II), children move into Primary ballet (I) in which they learn the basic skills needed for their first ballet examination (Primary Grade).
