Commercial / Street Dancing
All children who attend modern classes from Grade 2 upwards also learn commercial / street dance. These classes introduce a range of up to date dance styles with a focus on street and commercial. Commercial / street classes improve students’ flexibility, confidence in performing and their ability to learn new styles and routines.
Please note; modern dance must be learnt alongside commercial / street dance; it is not possible to learn street by itself. Prospective students who are beginners may be placed in a class with younger children who have dance experience.
We have 5 levels of commercial / street classes plus 2 boys street classes. Students are regularly assessed by the Principal and on an ongoing basis by the teacher with regard to moving up to the next level. Please bear in mind that students progress more steadily through commercial / street levels than modern because there are fewer levels. Also, progression into the next level of commercial / street is not dictated by a student having taken a freestyle examination because these examinations have no bearing on placing a student in the best commercial / street level for their ability in the following term.
