Tap Grade Classes
Grade 1 Tap plus
Rhythm is fundamental to tap and so our key approach to tap dancing is through musical awareness and understanding. Alongside this, students learn correct posture, weight placement, control, strength and coordination, which are all crucial to achieve good tonal quality in tap dancing. This combination of physical readiness and musicality enable our students to produce neat, clear and rhythmical beating in their tap dancing.
Line, style and sense of performance are also important in tap dancing and for this reason, we encourage all tap students to also learn modern and / or ballet alongside tap dancing.
Students with the necessary experience can start to work towards ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance) Graded examinations up to Grade 6 and students who show outstanding potential, may be asked by the Principal to commence work on Vocational examinations (up to Advanced 2 level).
All students in year 4 and above without previous experience will start in our Grade 1 tap (I) classes where the foundations of tap dancing are established.
